Hilaire Lemoine

Mr. Lemoine served for many years as Director General for the Official Languages Support Programs at Canadian Heritage before being named Executive Director, Portfolio Affairs for the same department. During his career, he also spent two years serving as a Special Advisor and represented Canada at the Modern Language Unit of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. Since retiring from the federal government in September 2006, he joined the University of Ottawa, as an Executive in Residence, working with the Faculty of Arts to help establish the Official Languages and Bilingualism Insitute.
A Franco-Manitoban, Mr. Lemoine is a proud representative of francophone minority communities in Canada. He has always demonstrated the conviction that valuing diversity helps to reinforce the foundations of our country. Mr. Lemoine’s contributions regarding official languages are well known. In 2005, he received the Lifetime Membership Award from CASLT in recognition of his exceptional work in the area of second language teaching and learning in Canada.
In 2006, the National Board of Canadian Parents for French (CPF) awarded the distiguished Life Membership Award to Mr. Lemoine for his outstanding leadership in promoting the learning of the official languages, and for his significant national contribution to CPF in its mandate of improving French language learning opportunities for the children of Canada.
