Games and Activities: How is the Weather?
|
Theme: The weather
Level: K to grade 6
Objective: To practice weather expressions.
Material: Bristol board, butterfly pin or clothes pin, wastepaper basket
Method: A large circle is drawn on a sheet of bristol board using the top of the wastepaper basket as a guide. Draw simple weather pictures, colour and laminate them. A large arrow should also be cut out of bristol board material. Attach the arrow to the center with the butterfly pin. Choose a student to come up and spin the arrow. The teacher holds the weather circle facing the class. As the student is approaching, the class sings "Quel temps fait-il?” to the tune of "Here we go round the mulberry bush".
" Quel temps fait-il ? (six times) Aujourd'hui ? "
By the time the class sings " Aujourd'hui” the student should be ready to spin the arrow. He then says the expression that corresponds to where the arrow is pointing. "Il fait froid."
Instead of an arrow, the teacher uses a colourful clothes pin. He holds the weather circle facing away from the class. A student is handed a clothes pin and as the class sings, he comes up and pins an area. The teacher turns the weather circle around and now the student says the correct expression according to what he has "pinned".
