Activity
The students will write (using email or the regular mail) to a francophone in Canada who is involved in the Arts, Sports, or Politics in order to get information about this person.
Learning Outcomes
The student will be required to:
- identify and get to better know a francophone in Canada;
- understand and select pertinent information in a written articles;
- employ sentence structures and vocabulary in order to write a clear message and to ask questions.
Technological skills
The student will be able to:
- send and receive email;
- surf the Internet.
Learning Scenario
- Students search the Internet to find the name and address (electronic and mailing) of a francophone in Canada who is involved in Sports, the Arts, or Politics.
- Students fill out a short information file about the person they have selected.
- Students identify something they would like to know about the person they selected and they write a question the receive the information they are looking for.
- The students write a message to the francophone person in which they introduce themselves, indicate why they chose to study that person and ask one or two questions.
- After having received an answer, the students write the new information in their information guide.
Criteria for Evaluation
The self evaluation may be completed in one of two ways:
Content of the written message:
- Does the message contain the following elements:
- a greeting;
- have the students identified their school, city, and Province;
- did the students indicate why they are writing;
- one or more questions;
- the students' names?
The form of the written message:
- is the spelling correct;
- are the sentence structures correct?
Extension activity
- Each group can do a class presentation about the person they have chosen.
- Students can put all their information forms together to make a poster, book or multimedia presentation.
