Activity
The student writes a letter to a pen pal to introduce himself or herself and asks questions to get to know the individual better.
Learning Outcomes
The student will be required to:
- correspond with a student from another school;
- get to know a francophone student of his / her own age;
- use the appropriate form of the noun and adjective based on gender;
- use a template to write an e-mail letter.
Technological skills
The student will be required to:
- go to a web site
- send an e-mail message;
Materials required
- a printer
- Internet access
- e-mail access (optional)
Learning Scenario
- The student completes the template (sample letter).
- By filling in the blanks, the student will realise that the spelling of some words changes according to the gender. If there is a problem with understanding why the spelling changes the exercise in the "Language Aids" section can be completed.
- A sample letter is included in the "Language Aids" and includes all the components of a letter. It can be referred to when necessary.
- The student prints the letter.
- The student goes to the site http://www.momes.net to find a pen pal with whom he / she would like to correspond.
- The student clicks on the underlined words in the ad and writes an e-mail letter.
- The student sends the letter. If e-mail is not available at home he / she is instructed to make sure that a home return postal address is included in the letter.
- The student waits hoping for an answer.
- If there is no answer, the letter can be directed to another pen pal.

The self evaluation may be completed in one of two ways:

Extension Activities
- The student continues to correspond with the pen pal.
- The student can write a request for a pen pal and send it to the web site http://www.momes.net
