Activity

The student writes a letter to a pen pal to introduce himself or herself and asks questions to get to know the individual better.

Learning Outcomes

The student will be required to:

  • correspond with a student from another school;
  • get to know a francophone student of his / her own age;
  • use the appropriate form of the noun and adjective based on gender;
  • use a template to write an e-mail letter.

Technological skills

The student will be required to:

  • go to a web site
  • send an e-mail message;
  • print

Materials required

  • a printer
  • Internet access
  • e-mail access (optional)

Learning Scenario

  • The student completes the template (sample letter).
  • By filling in the blanks, the student will realise that the spelling of some words changes according to the gender. If there is a problem with understanding why the spelling changes the exercise in the "Language Aids" section can be completed.
  • A sample letter is included in the "Language Aids" and includes all the components of a letter. It can be referred to when necessary.
  • The student prints the letter.
  • The student goes to the site http://www.momes.net to find a pen pal with whom he / she would like to correspond.
  • The student clicks on the underlined words in the ad and writes an e-mail letter.
  • The student sends the letter. If e-mail is not available at home he / she is instructed to make sure that a home return postal address is included in the letter.
  • The student waits hoping for an answer.
  • If there is no answer, the letter can be directed to another pen pal.

Extension Activities
