Let's Write a Poem

Teacher's Notes

Activity

When the student receives an answer from his new friend, he writes a poem about his friend. If the student did not participate in the "A New Friend" activity, he can write a poem on a friend in the class.

Learning Outcomes

If the student chooses to write a poem about the pen pal, he will be required to:

1. find and understand specific information contained in a letter written in French;
2. write a poem giving information about a friend;
3. get to know a francophone student of his own age;
4. use a model of a poem to create his own poem.

Technological skills

The student will be required to:

1. go to a web site
2. send an e-mail message;
3. print
4. use drawing software (optional).

Learning Scenario

1. The student goes to the student file and looks at the sample of a simple biographical poem.
2. The student looks for specific information in the letter he has received from a pen pal in order to write the poem.
3. The student fills in the template for the poem using specific details from the letter.
4. The student prints the poem.
5. The student illustrates the poem. These drawings can be made using a drawing software (optional).
6. The student sends the poem by e-mail or by regular mail.
7. The student reads the poem to the class.

The self evaluation may be completed in one of two ways:

1. When you click on the "Self Evaluation" navigation button, you will be presented with the self evaluation form. You may discuss these questions orally with your students.
2. If you would prefer to have your students write their answers to the self evaluation questions, click on the icon in the left column at the top of this page.
