The Canadian Association of Second Language Teachers ( CASLT ) was created in 1970 with the mission of promoting the advancement of second language teaching throughout Canada by creating opportunities for professional development, by encouraging research, and by facilitating the sharing of information and the exchange of ideas among second language educators.
In accordance with its mandate to promote the advancement of second language teaching in Canada , CASLT produced a package of formative ESL assessments that includes a variety of speaking, listening, writing and reading tasks that can easily be intergraded into the second language classroom activities. The assessment instruments are designed to evaluate student progress in tasks requiring authentic communication of messages, ideas, feelings and /or opinions.
You will find on this CD all templates for the instruments found in the Formative Assessments, English as a Second Language resource guide. All of the files on the CD are Microsoft Word documents, so they can be opened on MAC and IBM compatible computer, and revised to accommodate individual needs.
To open a document, simply click on the title in the Table of Contents. The names for the documents correspond exactly to their title and page in the manual.
In order to maintain a version of the originals found on this CD, ensure that when working with the documents to use the SAVE AS function on your computer, and save the modified documents on your hard-drive, as to not write-over the original.
The CASLT offers many classroom activity ideas and teacher resources on its website, www.caslt.org .
We hope that you find this resource helpful in your ESL teaching experience!
