Chinese: Vocabulary

Chinese Take-In – This is an interactive environment where first-year Chinese learners can practice listening outside the classroom according to individual needs and paces while receiving immediate feedback.

English-Chinese Dictionary:  This section contains a talking English-Chinese dictionary. Look up words by English, pinyin or simplified Chinese. Users can listen to the words by scrolling over or clicking on the word.

Languages Online - Chinese topics: This page on the Web site offers interactive tasks and games and  printable worksheets. It also includes a number of audiovisual resources.

Chinese Numbers - Printables and Worksheets: Articles on how to write Chinese numbers and worksheet to practice writing numbers from 0 to 10,000. Also included are puzzles on Chinese numbers (crossword puzzles and word search puzzles).

Time 2 Learn – Most of the resources on this site are for paying subscribers, but there is a sample lesson on musical instruments and an e-book on the continents.  A trial subscription is also available. Lessons and e-books make use of audio files.

汉英词典 Chinese-English Dictionary - The chinesenotes.com Chinese-English dictionary now has all the Chinese Language Proficiency Test (HSK) vocabulary, including over 13,000 words with grammar and example sentences.

Zhongwen.com contains the complete text of Chinese Characters: A Genealogy and Dictionary. Distributed by Yale Univ. Press.

CTCTL: Multimedia Chinese Language - This supplementary Chinese course of 22 lessons in simplified characters at elementary-intermediate level.  It makes comprehensive use of multimedia materials, including video and audio files, interactive character writing exercises, interactive grammar drills, multiple choice vocabulary tests, and indexes for grammar and vocabulary.

Mandarin Chinese Flash cards - Basic Mandarin Chinese flashcards and vocabulary exercises for children and beginners. The flashcards use both simplified Chinese characters (hanzi) and pinyin, and are available both online and as printable PDF files. The wordlists cover a wide range of basic concepts, such as colours, animals, fruits, vegetables, vehicles, furniture etc.

Primary resources : Mandarin - This site contains a collection of teacher created Mandarin interactive Flash activities with sound files to do online or to download for use offline.
