Bev Anderson

Bev Anderson has worked has a teacher, university lecturer, educational consultant for Core French and Intensive French with the Government of Saskatchewan, trainer, and author primarily in the area of French second language education. She is bilingual (French & English) and holds B. Ed. and M. Ed. Degrees.

She has been involved in the development and implementation of numerous teacher training resources; most recently, she is a co-author of Making Connections: effective literacy practices in FSL (2008). She has contributed to other FSL resources including En Direct 1 and the Intensive French Interprovincial Teaching Guide. She is a former president of the Canadian Association of Second Language Teachers (CASLT).

Bev is currently the sole proprietor of Bev Anderson Consulting where she provides services in the areas of teacher training & support and program development & delivery.

Title of Workshop/Presentation: Let’s talk culture! Integrating culture into the FSL classroom Language of Delivery: Bilingual (French & English) Target Audience: Core French Gr. 4-12 Session Description: Develop an understanding of French-speaking societies by integrating cultural experiences into daily language instruction. This interactive workshop will focus on how to integrate elements and traditions of current and traditional francophone culture into your FSL classroom. Participants will discover practical suggestions on how to integrate culture while developing student literacy skills, as well as explore print, media and Internet resources that focus on folklore, traditions, songs and dance. Handouts will be provided. Preferred Length of Time: 1 hour – 1 ½ hr Strand Identifying Keywords: Culture, technology, literacy, reading strategies, oral communication, methods/ techniques
Title of Workshop/Presentation: Let’s get students talking using effective literacy strategies! Language of Delivery: Bilingual (French & English) Target Audience: Core French Gr. 4-12 Session Description: Learn effective literacy strategies that will motivate your students as they feel successful communicating in French. This practical workshop will focus on strategies and techniques that support & encourage students as they develop oral communication skills in French. Participants will experience how the use of purposeful oral language is integrated into the development of students’ overall literacy skills. Handouts will be provided. Preferred Length of Time: 1 hour – 1 ½ hr Strand Identifying Keywords: literacy, oral communication, strategies, methods/ techniques
