SUMMARY:Celebrating Languages Without Borders 2020
DESCRIPTION:On October 23 and 24\, 2020\, CASLT and the British Columbia Association of Teachers of Modern Languages (BCATML) co-hosted Celebrating Languages Without Borders (CLWB). Due to pandemic restrictions\, the conference took place online\, offering even greater opportunities for participation without the logistical barriers of geography or time. Over 600 second language educators and stakeholders attended over 100 high-quality presentations and workshops. Online networking opportunities and a virtual trade show enabled participants to share information\, exchange ideas\, and learn about new resources. \nSome sessions were recorded and are now available on the CASLT Learning Centre.

SUMMARY:Networking Day 2020
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, CASLT hosts a networking event following its Annual General Meeting (AGM). The Networking Day is a great opportunity for CASLT members\, partners\, and second language education stakeholders to share information and ideas. Following the 2020 AGM\, CASLT presented its 2020 Networking Day in an online format. The Networking Day featured Networking Mini Meets\, facilitated discussions on relevant topics and current issues in language education. Attendees could join one of five Mini Meet breakout groups: Core French\, French immersion\, modern/international languages\, English as a second language\, or Indigenous languages. The main theme of the mini meets explored how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted students’ language acquisition and led to innovation in teaching. The final part of the event gathered all participants for a 50th anniversary celebration for CASLT.

SUMMARY:2020 Annual General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:CASLT holds its annual general meeting (AGM) each fall. At the AGM\, CASLT members and stakeholders gather to discuss important updates\, vote\, and network. \nIn 2020\, CASLT’s AGM took place completely online for the first time. On September 25\, 2020\, over 120 CASLT members met virtually to take stock of the association’s 2019–2020 year and look towards upcoming initiatives. \nAmong the agenda items were the reports from CASLT’s president\, treasurer\, and auditor and the announcement of 2020’s CASLT award recipients. The AGM also saw the election of a new board member and the introduction of a new National Council member. \nThe AGM was followed by CASLT’s 2020 Networking Day.

DESCRIPTION:Each year\, CASLT hosts a networking event following its Annual General Meeting (AGM). Networking Day is a great opportunity for CASLT members\, partners\, and second language education stakeholders to share information and ideas. CASLT presented its 2019 AGM and Networking Day in conjunction with EducLang’s biennial conference and the Ontario Modern Language Teachers Association (OMLTA) fall conference. As a result\, attendance at the Networking Day was close to 200 people. Attendees also benefited from a much greater selection of professional development sessions than at past Networking Days. Thanks to this partnership\, attendees had access to close to 80 presentations and workshops.

DESCRIPTION:CASLT holds its annual general meeting (AGM) each fall. At the AGM\, CASLT members and stakeholders gather to discuss important updates\, vote\, and network.  \nCASLT’s AGM on September 27\, 2019\, at the University of Ottawa had 107 members and 20 observers in attendance. It was held in collaboration with EducLang’s biennial conference and the Ontario Modern Language Teachers’ Association (OMLTA) fall conference. Among the agenda items were the presentation of the annual report and the audited financial statements\, the election of two new board members\, and the introduction of the board of directors and National Council. For the first time\, the meeting was livestreamed on Facebook and attracted close to 100 online viewers. \nThe AGM was followed by CASLT’s 2019 Networking Day.

SUMMARY:Languages Without Borders 2017
DESCRIPTION:From April 6–8\, 2017\, CASLT and the Institute for Innovation in Second Language Education (IISLE) at Edmonton Public Schools co-hosted the Languages Without Borders (LWB) conference in Edmonton\, Alberta. CASLT and IISLE worked together to organize\, promote\, and present an extraordinary conference that brought together over 620 attendees and 130 presenters. \nThe 2017 LWB conference included a major innovation for CASLT: the Aboriginal Languages Gathering (ALG) programming. With 19 sessions focusing on topics such as the teaching of Indigenous languages; the connection between language\, culture\, and identity; applying the Common Framework of Reference in Indigenous language classrooms; Indigenous language immersion programs; and much more\, the ALG provided an entire conference within a conference. \nSome sessions were recorded and are available on the CASLT Learning Centre.

DESCRIPTION:From March 26 to 28\, 2015\, CASLT hosted the World Congress of Modern Languages (WCML) along with the International Modern Language Teachers’ Federation (FIPLV) and the Ontario Modern Language Teachers’ Association (OMLTA) in Niagara Falls\, Ontario. The 1\,050 attendees had a chance to participate in more than two days of workshops\, roundtables\, lectures\, and other activities. The program included more than 140 workshops and presentations as well as four plenary sessions.

DESCRIPTION:From April 18–20\, 2013\, CASLT hosted Languages Without Borders (LWB) in Winnipeg\, Manitoba. Close to 500 participants attended this edition of the conference. More than two full days of professional development included 71 workshops\, six roundtables\, two keynote addresses\, a number of language workshops\, and an exhibitors’ hall that brought together the most important players in language teaching and learning from across Canada.
