Enrica Piccardo is a researcher in second language education. She is a specialist in second/foreign language pedagogies, plurilingualism, curriculum, and assessment. She has extensive experience working in teacher education and in project and team management. She has coordinated two international projects at the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML) for the Council of Europe in Graz, Austria — Encouraging the Culture of Evaluation among Professionals (ECEP) from 2008 to 2011, and A Quality Assurance Matrix for CEFR Use (CEFR-QualiMatrix)from 2016 to 2018. As a researcher, she has contributed to developing new descriptors for mediation and related areas for the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) 2nd edition, of which she is one of three authors.
Dr. Piccardo is a Full Professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto. She is also a faculty member of the Université Grenoble-Alpes in France. Dr. Piccardo has published extensively in French, English, Italian, and German and presented in Canada, the US, many European countries, and Japan. She is also active in training PhD students in interdisciplinary research in language pedagogy. Her latest publication, co-authored with Brian North, is The Action-Oriented Approach: A Dynamic Vision of Language Education (Bristol, UK: Multilingual Matters, 2019).
