CASLT Event Description
From April 6–8, 2017, CASLT and the Institute for Innovation in Second Language Education (IISLE) at Edmonton Public Schools co-hosted the Languages Without Borders (LWB) conference in Edmonton, Alberta. CASLT and IISLE worked together to organize, promote, and present an extraordinary conference that brought together over 620 attendees and 130 presenters.
The 2017 LWB conference included a major innovation for CASLT: the Aboriginal Languages Gathering (ALG) programming. With 19 sessions focusing on topics such as the teaching of Indigenous languages; the connection between language, culture, and identity; applying the Common Framework of Reference in Indigenous language classrooms; Indigenous language immersion programs; and much more, the ALG provided an entire conference within a conference.
Some sessions were recorded and are available on the CASLT Learning Centre.
