The Canadian Association of Second Language Teachers (CASLT) is launching a new pan‑Canadian project, funded by the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC), to develop multimodal pedagogical resources that support student engagement, motivation, and perseverance in secondary French as a second language (FSL) programs (with a particular focus on Core French).

We are seeking an individual with strong research and synthesis skills to 1) lead the inventory and analysis of existing FSL resources hosted on inspirefsl.ca and 2) produce a clear, actionable synthesis to guide the design of new resources.

Role Overview

The Resource Inventory and Synthesis Lead will:

  • Conduct a structured inventory of existing FSL resources on inspirefsl.ca that are relevant to secondary Core French and related programs
  • Analyze these resources in relation to the project’s objectives (student engagement, motivation, and retention in secondary FSL)
  • Identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities in the current resource offering to inform the concept and themes of the new modules
  • Prepare concise, practitioner‑ and funder‑friendly summaries (tables, brief reports, slide decks) that can be shared with the writing team, working group, and project partners

Profile

We invite expressions of interest from individuals who:

  • Have strong experience in research, literature review, and/or knowledge synthesis, such as environmental scans, scoping reviews, or systematic reviews of resources or publications
  • Are familiar with FSL or language education in the Canadian context (secondary FSL experience is a strong asset, but not strictly required)
  • Can work comfortably in French and English, with the ability to read and analyze resources and write clear summaries in at least one official language (French preferred)
  • Are highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to work independently while collaborating with the project manager and writing team

We welcome applications from current graduate students (e.g., MA, MEd, PhD), recent graduates, researchers, consultants, or educators with demonstrated experience in review and synthesis work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate (with the project manager) a simple framework and coding grid for reviewing resources on inspirefsl.ca
  • Complete a systematic scan of relevant resources on inspirefsl.ca and classify them using the agreed‑upon framework
  • Analyze the results to identify:
    • areas that are already well covered
    • gaps and under‑served needs for secondary Core French
    • opportunities to adapt, build on, or complement existing materials
  • Prepare a concise written report and summary slides to share with the writing team, working group, and project partners
  • Participate in at least one meeting with the working group (and potentially a project advisory group) to present findings and respond to questions

Commitment

  • The majority of work will take place in April–May 2026, with one in-person meeting in May
  • Some limited follow‑up (e.g., clarifications, minor updates) will take place later in 2026
  • Approximately 50 hours of research, analysis, and synthesis of results, plus meetings

Compensation

  • Honorarium of $2,000
  • Covered travel costs for in‑person meeting (transport, accommodation, per diem)

Apply

To submit an expression of interest, please complete the online form by April 13, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. ET. You will be asked to upload a CV (maximum 2 pages) and provide a brief (1–2 paragraph) expression of interest.
