Join the Conversation
In 2020, CASLT launched a pan-Canadian research project to identify ways to better equip new FSL teachers for success in the early stages of their careers. The FSL Teacher Education Project explored the strengths, challenges, and opportunities in FSL teacher education and early-career years. Following the project’s completion, we hosted a series of FSL Research Exchanges, featuring expert researchers discussing key themes identified in the report.
The FSL exCHANGE series builds on these initiatives. The project aims to:
- Continue the conversation about FSL teacher shortages and retention
- Address the five gaps identified in FSL teacher education and professional learning in Canada
- Engage our members and stakeholders in ongoing, interactive discussions
- Develop practical, systemic solutions to support FSL teachers throughout their careers
- Inform policy and practice in FSL education across Canada
How It Works
Every two months, we’ll launch a new interactive survey on a specific topic related to FSL teaching. These surveys are designed to be virtual brainstorming sessions, allowing participants to share ideas and see others’ responses in real-time.
Current Survey: Mentorship in FSL
Our current survey addresses one of the key areas for supporting new FSL teachers: mentorship in FSL teaching. We invite all FSL educators, administrators, and stakeholders to participate and share their insights. The survey will close on October 25, 2024.
What’s Next?
After each survey closes, we’ll publish a blog article summarizing key insights and trends. Then, in April 2025, join us at Languages Without Borders for a special session where we’ll discuss major takeaways and plan future actions.
