Oral language is a fundamental part of language learning. Intended for teachers working with primary school students in the context of additional language (L+) learning, this workshop explores the central role of the spoken word in the language development of young learners. In order to develop both fluency and accuracy, it is essential to explicitly teach the language elements necessary to achieve oral communication goals and to provide students with stimulating and meaningful learning opportunities. But how can we support the development of their language skills while encouraging them to speak up and interact with confidence?

This dynamic and interactive workshop will highlight the benefits of strategically integrating spontaneous oral language into learning contexts for an L+ in primary school. The proposed examples, strategies, and teaching paths will be grounded in French as a second language (FSL) contexts, while being adaptable to other languages and various teaching contexts. Participants will explore a variety of practical strategies to create authentic situations where students can speak, interact, experience language, and develop oral language confidence.
