Description
Today’s additional language (L+) classrooms are more linguistically and culturally diverse than ever. Multilingual learners are often highly motivated to learn additional languages and tend to develop strong language proficiency in these programs, yet teachers sometimes wonder how to best support them. This interactive workshop will unpack research and explore plurilingual pedagogical approaches that promote inclusive practices and empower multilingual learners in the classroom. The examples and research shared will draw primarily from French immersion and French as a second language contexts, but the strategies and takeaways can be adapted across a range of L+ programs.

Stephen Davis
Dr. Stephen Davis is the director of the Baccalauréat en éducation française program and an associate professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Regina. His research interests include French immersion programs, multilingualism, inclusive education, language ideology, language policy, refugee studies, and plurilingual pedagogical approaches. Through his teaching, research, and service, Stephen advocates for more equitable and inclusive language education programs across Canada and beyond.
